Called "Light and Charge," the technology will launch next in the German city next year, with drivers able to pay for a charge through a mobile app.
Two of streetlight prototypes, which feature LED lights and BMW's ChargeNow electrical stations, are currently installed in front of the company's headquarters.
According to Peter Schwarzenbauer, a BMW executive, "Charging infrastructure is essential to the future of electric vehicles in cities."
"Seamless charging infrastructure is essential if we want to see more electric vehicles on the road in our cities in the future," he added.
BMW says the stations can be easily integrated into the existing electrical infrastructure, eliminating the need for massive municipal infrastructure projects to accommodate the charging facilities.
