CanGEA set to brief public on geothermal energy

The Canadian Geothermal Energy Association plans to release detailed technical information on Wednesday that it says will show geothermal energy is a viable alternative to a controversial dam project in the Peace River valley in Alberta.
CanGEA set to brief public on geothermal energy

“To CanGEA, it is completely mystifying why the B.C. government would choose to ignore critical new research demonstrating that geothermal is competitive with the updated Site C cost to ratepayers, addresses First Nations concerns, and provides many other benefits to communities compared to Site C,” said CanGEA Managing Director Alison Thompson in a written statement.

The group described government support for the dam as a sign of its "unwillingness to listen and disregard for the Peace River valley."

CanGEA’s report entitled “Geothermal Energy: The Renewable and Cost Effective Alternative to Site C” was released November 25, 2014.

Two days later the association asked to meet with government Minister Bill Bennett and Premier Christy Clark, but they never received a response.

Bennett announced construction approval of Site C two weeks later. Since then at least six lawsuits have been filed to block the project, CanGEA says.
