Conergy builds 4.6MW solar park and carport plants in France

Conergy builds 4.6MW solar park and carport plants in France

Two orders for installations in La Fare-les-Oliviers, a village near Aix-en-Provence in the South of France, have been completed by Conergy. One of these orders consisted of a 4.5MW solar park on a site in the southeast of the village for a local grid operator and energy provider. The other project consisted of two solar carport plants totalling 100KW which will provide shade for 56 cars in the summer heat of Provence.

Conergy was the main contractor for the solar plant, the project being ordered by investor UEM, the local grid operator and the power utility company for the city of Metz. Conergy was mandated to complete both the planning and engineering for the installation in addition to its construction, supply of components and subsequent operational management and maintenance.

The construction of the solar plant, which covers a site of 9.5 hectares, was completed in May and some 18,000 Conergy “P Series” solar modules will now be generating around 6,500 megawatt hours of clean solar power per year, enough to supply more than 1,800 homes. An official opening ceremony for the facility took place this week on 17th June with representatives of Conergy and UEM in attendance along with the Mayor of La Fare-les-Oliviers.

“With its decision to increase both, market volume and subsidies, the government has given a boost to the solar sector” said Philippe Pflieger, Managing Director of Conergy in France. “Although the economic situation in this country remains tense, we believe that these steps will restore a good outlook for solar energy in our country. But the competitive pressure remains high. That makes it all the more pleasing that both energy providers and local authorities are putting their trust in our high-quality solar systems and that we were able to secure not just one but two important orders under these circumstances.”

The two carports provide a roof space of 740 square metres on which Conergy installed two solar plants with a total capacity of 100 kilowatts. The project was conducted in collaboration with Conergy’s long-term partner, Sunalp, which acted as the main conractor. Conergy provided both planning and roof integration supplying 420 Conergy “P Series” modules with six Conergy IPG51T inverters. The carports will generate 127 megawatt hours per year, sufficient to supply around 36 households in La Fare-les-Oliviers, while displacing around 12 tonnes of carbon emissions.

La Fare-les-Oliviers benefits from one of the highest levels of insolation in the whole of France with around 1,800 kilowatt hours per square metre annually.
