Danish company Aalborg CSP wins another award

After taking home the Indiasol prize in October, Aalborg CSP has now received the CSP Today International Award, the most highly ranked in the concentrated solar power (CSP) industry.
Danish company Aalborg CSP wins another award

The CSP Today International Awards are granted to companies that excel in the industry, reflecting the great efforts companies make towards making CSP more competitive. A panel of judges comprising of independent industry experts ranks the nominees to select one winner in each category.

This year, the jury consisted of Luis Crespo, President of ESTELA, Eduardo Zarza, Head of Solar Concentrating Systems at CIEMAT, Manuel Blanco, Solar Thermal Group Leader at CSIRO and Féliz Téllez, researcher at CIEMAT. Aalborg CSP was announced as winner within the CSP Technology Innovation category in recognition of the company’s technology optimization efforts.

“Aalborg CSP is devoted to making CSP the preferred renewable energy source and this prestigious award once again confirms that we are on the right track with our technology development efforts” said Svante Bundgaard, CEO of Aalborg CSP. “We will continue designing systems that excel in operation, increase plant revenue and improve levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of CSP plants.”

When the largest MWe capacity was added in Spain, Aalborg CSP earned a position at the forefront of steam generator design development. The technology has continuously been improved based on emerging market expectations. As a result, the third, optimized edition of Aalborg CSP’s solar steam generators, the SGS3 technology, not only meets the general plant specifications but incorporates increased performance and higher availability whole lowering CAPEX and O&M costs.

Aalborg’s steam systems are developed based on traditional boiler principles (ASME and EN standard), not as ordinary heat exchangers (TEMA standard). Therefore they are 100 percent welded header and coil type with up to 4.5mm thick tubes. The SGS3 technology has been designed to eliminate leakage, avoiding unnecessary maintenance and system downtime. It embraces a rapid ramp-up of 9 °C/min, resulting in 30 minutes extra operation on a normal 9 hour day, increasing plant revenue accordingly. Furthermore, it achieves a low pressure drop of 1-2 bar on the heat transfer fluid (HTF) side and reduces parasitic losses as a result. These main design elements together have reduced levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of CSP plants by at least 5 percent, but in some cases up to 10 percent.

The company is headquartered in Aalborg (Denmark) and has sales & service offices in Spain, US, Kenya, Uganda and Indonesia. It has provided cost effective thermal energy solutions to a variety of industries worldwide.
