The production of the company’s Styrofoam Brand XPS Insulation, Thermax Brand Insulation, Frothpak Spray Foam Insulation and Great Stuff Insulating Foam Sealant is now being supported by a ten-year wind power partnership with NRG Energy.

In 2015, roughly 10 percent of Styrofoam XPS production and 50 percent of Thermax production operated on renewable energy resources. The company is one of the largest industrial buyers and consumers of renewable energy, which the company’s clean energy targets as part of the its deal with NRG Energy has now reinforced. An allocated portion of the renewable energy generation has been secured through renewable energy credits (RECs) and applied exclusively to manufacturing plants for Dow Building Solutions’ residential and commercial products.

“With the progress made today, Dow has a leading position to offer more sustainable solutions working at state and national levels to revitalise the manufacturing sector in ways that will continue to boost a low carbon economy” said Jack Broodo business president of Feedstocks and Energy.

Jane Palmieri, business president of Dow Building and Construction, added that the company uses a global lens to magnify its impact around the world. By driving collaborations in order to develop a societal blueprint, the company is aiming to help facilitate the transition to a more sustainable planet and society.

Dow has a central energy business dedicated to energy generation, purchasing and allocation of energy to manufacturing sites across North America. By using the four pillars of Dow’s Energy Plan – conserve, optimise, accelerate, transition – the company is well placed to use competitively priced energy while minimising its environmental impact. The announcement of the deal highlights the company’s progress towards its 2025 Sustainability Goals.
