Enel Green Power begins work on Chile PV plant

Lalackama II is the company’s fourth PV plant in Chile and once it is complete, the 19MW plant will be capable of generating more than 50GWh of renewable electricity per year, equivalent to the power consumption needs of about 30,000 Chilean households and displacing over 30,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The plant is located in the municipality of Taltal in Chile’s Antogagasta region, around 950 kilometres north of Santiago. The facility will cover an area of around 40 hectares and is an extension of the original Lalackama project which is currently at its completion stage. Lalackama II will bring the total installed capacity of the photovoltaic plant to an approximate 79 MW.

The plant requires around $32 million investment for completion and is supported by a power supply contract to sell energy to private customers.

Enel Green Power already has a presence in Chile, operating the Talinay Oriente and Valle de los Vientos wind farms, each of which has a capacity of 90MW. The company is also completing construction work on the Taltal wind farm, the largest wind project in the country, as well as on its Diego de Almagro (36 MW), Lalackama (60 MW) and Chañares (40 MW). solar plants. It is also active in the geothermal sector in which it is currently a number of concesssions with a potential of over 100MW.
