Gamesa wins its largest ever solar order in India

Gamesa has entered into an agreement with Indian developer Atria Power for the construction of 130 MW of solar power at two developments in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, in southern India.
Gamesa wins its largest ever solar order in India

It is the largest solar order received by Gamesa since it entered this sector in India last year. Under the terms of this EPC contract, Gamesa will develop two solar power plants, with capacity of 90 MW and 40 MW. The company will be responsible for the design and engineering of the facilities and the procurement of 96 E1.37 MW photovoltaic inverters, to be made by Gamesa Electric. These will be the most powerful inverters installed in India to date. Gamesa has also been mandated to handle operations and maintenance at the facilities. The projects are slated for commissioning in March 2017.

“This contract marks a fresh milestone in our strategy in the solar power segment in India” said Ramesh Kymal, Gamesa's CEO in India. “Here at Gamesa we continue to strive to offer our customers unrivalled solutions, by leveraging our know-how developing and managing renewable energy projects and our competitive local supply chain.”

Kuruppanparambil Viswambharan Sajay, Executive Vice President, Gamesa’s Solar Business Unit, added that there is huge demand for solar EPC & technology solutions in India and that Gamesa looks forward to meeting this demand with its solar EPC services and Hybrid cooled central inverters.

Gamesa’s focus on the PV sector in India is in line with its strategic goal enshrined in the company’s 2015-2017 business plan. This explores opportunities in businesses that complement the wind industry, such as solar power. India's solar potential has been sized at 750 GW. The government's goal is to lift installed capacity to 100 GW by 2022, compared to 3.8 GW today.
