New Energy Technologies announces new financial payback period for solar windows

New Energy Technologies has announced a financial payback period of under one year for its see-through SolarWindow technology which generates electricity on glass windows.
New Energy Technologies announces new financial payback period for solar windows

The company’s SolarWindow systems have been designed for available window glass on tall towers and skyscrapers, thereby turning passive building windows into active power generators. The systems operate through the application of electricity-generating coatings to glass surfaces thereby creating electricity-generating windows.

New Energy Technologies modelling indicates that the systems could generate up to 50-times the power of conventional rooftop solar systems while delivering 15 times the environmental benefits. A single SolarWindow installation can displace an amount of carbon equivalent to that produced by vehicles driving around 2.75 million miles per year, compared to 180,000 miles for conventional rooftop systems.

Quick payback is one of the most important financial considerations for renewable energy consumers, including building developers, architects and engineers. According to its first-ever financial modelling results, SolarWindow systems could achieve payback within one year, compared to between 5 and 11 years, and at least 10-12 acres of valuable urban land, for conventional power systems generating the equivalent amount of power.

“No competing technology I've seen has ever recorded or published a payback period as fast and as financially compelling as our SolarWindow technology” said John Conklin, President and CEO of New Energy Technologies, Inc. “This is a huge win for all our stakeholders - including future customers - and for the environment.”

The company is now working to secure independent third-party validation of its financial modelling while the SolarWindow itself is now under development for around 85 million commercial buildings and detached homes across the US.
