Rame completes first Chilean solar project

Rame Energy  has completed its first solar power plant in Chile, utilising the expertise of its wholly owned subsidiary Beco Energy Solutions.
Rame completes first Chilean solar project

The 25 kW rooftop installation for a high profile school will serve as a demonstrator to showcase Rame’s solar capabilities.

It is the first phase of a planned development totalling approximately 300kW and the electricity produced will be sold to the school under a 15 year power purchase agreement. This is one of the first Santiago projects to benefit from new legislation which incentivises rooftop generation.

The installation is key to the school’s green agenda which recently won an innovation award from the British – Chilean Chamber of Commerce.

Rame acquired Beco last year and it is this partnership that enabled Rame to break into the Chilean solar market.

Rame Energy CEO Tim Adams said “it was always our desire to transfer Beco’s solar capabilities into new markets. As Rame’s primary market, Chile is the obvious choice and recent legislation to incentivise rooftop generation opened up the perfect opportunity”.

In other company news, work is now well under way on its 15MW Raki / Huajache wind project in Chile.

Rame holds a 20 percent  equity interest in the project alongside Santander Investment Chile Limitada.

A 16 December 2014 landslide temporarily slow progress on the project, but in a release, the company said debris from that event has now been cleared, and turbine components have been moved from a temporary storage facility at the Port of Lirquen to the project site.

Construction of the project is expected to take six weeks.
