According to the report, the ministry will soon announced a national mission for small hydro power projects akin to the previously announced national solar mission.
As part of that plan over 750 MW of new capacity are being envisaged for Odisha, the report says
The announcement of the projects was made at the Third Odisha Solar Conference on Friday.
The projects are said to include small hydro power projects at canals, barrages, streams and river systems besides individual households at irrigation channels.
Officials said severalold projects would be renovated and new projects taken up by tapping the available resources and sites.
Odisha has already taken steps to promote small hydro electricity generation with over 250 MW capacity worth of projects in the pipeline.
The State-owned Odisha Hydro Power Corporation is also in the process of identifying sites for more small hydro power projects.
