Suzlon Group announces commissioning of 4.20 MW Indian wind farm

The wind farm is located near the village of Nakhatrana in Kutch, Gujarat, and consists of two S97 120 metre hybrid tower wind turbines, Suzlon Group’s newest product variant. The wind farm will offset 9,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The S97 is the world’s tallest all-steel hybrid tower, providing 12-15 percent higher energy yield and further enabling the viability of sub-optimal wind sites. It achieved the best in industry class Plant Load Factor of 35 percent over a period of 12 months from its launch in November 2014.

“The investment in wind energy is part of AMC’s long-term focus on sustainable development and harnessing green energy is one step towards that” said Shri Mukesh Kumar, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). “Renewable energy is one area where even at a municipal level we can show global leadership and where we all can play our small part in helping to mitigate climate change challenges.”

Mr Tulsi Tanti, Chairman and Managing Director, Suzlon Group, added that this is the second instance in the state where a local self-governing urban body has chosen the company to harness renewable energy and that Ahmedabad is a truly green city.

As of March 2016, Gujarat’s total wind installations stood at approximately 4,038 MW out of which 1,842 MW has been contributed by Suzlon. The group currently holds 36 percent of the Indian market share with a total installed capacity of 9,500 MW, established over the last 20 years.
