Suzlon will install its S97 wind turbines at Zaheerabad in Medak district, Telangana. Commissioning of the project is expected by June 2016.
The S97 has a height of 120 metres and a rated capacity of 2.1 MW and its considered to be the world’s tallest hybrid tower. It combines both a lattice and a tubular structure and is designed for low-wind sites, increasing energy output by 12 to 15 percent over turbines of the same capacity. The combination of lattice and tubular structure gives the tower enhanced strength at lower cost while the lattice arrangement can support weights due to its broad base. It also reduces the amount of steel required.
