Vattenfall adopts Mermaid marine project optimisation system

James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS) has announced that Vattenfall has ordered a full Mermaid system license for the strategic planning of its offshore wind farm operations.
Vattenfall adopts Mermaid marine project optimisation system

Mermaid provides increased understanding of the impact of weather and tidal forces on a project’s schedule to companies involved in marine operations. It does so by accurately simulating marine operations against historical weather and tidal data, thereby enhancing decision-making in the early planning stages of a project. This in turn enables project optimisation in order to secure significant cost-savings.

Mermaid was launched in autumn 2015 by Mojo Maritime, a trading division of JFMS, and has since then seen significant interest from the marine industry, becoming intrinsic to early adopter’s project planning processes. Vattenfall was a key participant in the development of the system, providing user testing and feedback during its late development phases prior to launch. The company has now order a full license.

“Mermaid is a comprehensive solution for our marine weather risk modelling” said Anne Lina Holy, project simulation analyst at Vattenfall. “We need to know how much and for how long the weather will cost us, and Mermaid supplies the answers. It’s fully flexible, being able to model the smallest operations to large-scale programmes and its easy-to-use interface allows us to model fast, and iterate project plans quickly.”

Anders Wilhelmsson, IT demand, business area wind at Vattenfall, added that the high quality platform design of Mermaid ensures policies for data security and data protection are met, as well as a reliable update mechanism enabling Mermaid to fit easily within Vattenfall’s IT policy environment and infrastructure.

The Mermaid system has a proven track record of success and allows users to realistically simulate marine operations in order to reveal risks and critical operations prior to deploying systems offshore. This can be critical to the success and cost-effectiveness of a project. Mermaid’s flexible licensing model makes it affordable for the smallest marine operators to the largest project developers and incorporates a two-week trial period for new users.
