23/7/2010

Disney is promoting an initiative entitled "Winds of change in Patagonia": a joint effort by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and researchers from the Department of Architecture at the Federico Santa María Technical University (UTFSM) in Valparaíso, Chile.

Located in the Timauke commune, in the province of Tierra del Fuego, Magallanes region, the wind power project is financed by Disney Friends for Change, a programme that supports environmental conservation work among children.

It has been revealed that the initiative will involve work to administer and manage wind energy at WCS’s facilities in Karukinka Park and the school located in Cameron, the capital of the Timauke commune.

The project will involve an environmental education programme related to the generation and sustainable use of this alternative energy source in protected areas of Patagonia. While this and two projects selected by Disney in Latin America (Mexico and Brazil) have already secured financing, the project receiving the most votes from the public may be entitiled to a higher amount of cash.
