PetroSun is a diversified energy company that specializes in discovery and development of both traditional (fossil-based) fuels and renewable energy resources. Its subsidiary Algae BioFuels is an emerging producer of biodiesel derived from the cultivation of algae.
Algae-based biodiesel has a number of favorable characteristics. Like most other biofuels it is non-toxic and readily biodegradable and it contains no sulfur. Yet the major upside is that, unlike corn or soybeans which can be used for consumption as well as biofuel production, there is no competing purpose for the cultivated algae.
