Chinese Government and United Nations Development Program team up to provide hydropower training to African trainees

Trainees from Africa will be taught the basics of hydropower and given technical know how during this 40 day training in China. The sessions will be conducted in China at the Hangzhou Regional Centre for Small Hydro power. 26 trainees in total from 11 countries will participate in the training. Since 2001 almost 50 trainees have taken part in this program.

Etuaf Kuku Wonu, chief of Service Planning Department of Togo was quoted as saying; "The techniques of China's small hydropower is among the most advanced in the world. What we have learnt in China will be applied in our countries for tapping potential water resources."

China also makes for an ideal location for such a program with 45,000 small hydro power plants being located in the country, producing 50 million KW. This puts China atop the tables for small hydro power generation. It is hoped that this program will aid these countries to maintain and develop more energy infrastructure to drive development. Topics include maintenance and repair as well as site selection know how.
