The company already has the worlds largest off shore wave power project off the Orkney Islands in Northern Scotland. The four Pelamis system sea serpents each generate 750 kw. With the system generating 3 MW it is the largest in the world and operated by subsidiary ScottishPower. The new plant in Spain is expected to generate enough power for 2500 homes and use a new buoy system, which is currently undergoing on shore testing. The system is called Power Take OFF (PTO), the buoys themselves are 20 meters long.
The installation will be located four kilometers offshore and will utilize 10 buoys. The first buoy is rated for 40 kw with the remaining nine for 125 kw.
