One of the plants will be built by Optisolar, a thin film solar developer subsidiary of Hayward, and the company in charge of developing another solar farm in Sarnia that we announced weeks ago. Their new plant will be built in Petrolia (not far away from Sarnia) and will boast two units of 10 MW.
The second of the plants announced will be built by SkyPower (which manages an impressive portfolio of around 7 GW of renewable energy in North America) and SunEdison; it will have 9.12 MW and will be built in Norfolk County.
Power purchase agreements are tools that start being extremely popular in North America, as they ensure a stable retribution framework for the project owner. In this case, the program is run by the Ontario Power Authority, which offers a price of $0.39 per kilowatt-hour for solar electricity production throughout a 20-year period.
