SunPower likes the Spanish sun

The Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of solar cells will engineer, procure supplies and build three solar PV parks totalling 21 MW. On top of that, the company has already reached agreements to supply an impressive 140 MW of trackers in the country.
The three new plants, totalling 21 MW, will be built for Naturener Group, a Spanish renewable energy company. The facilities be located in Tinarejos (Albacete), Manzanares and Almuradiel (Ciudad Real), all of them in the Castilla La Mancha region of Spain, south of Madrid. The plants will be sitting on an area of 90 hectares.
The plants will use SunPower's own trackers, which are able to follow the sun throughout the day delivering up to 25% more power output than fixed solar PV systems.

"We are pleased that the Spanish market continues its rapid adoption of solar power and that Naturener has chosen SunPower's innovative solar tracker technology as part of our turnkey solar solution," said Mr Marco Antonio Northland, General Manager of SunPower's European operations. "The SunPower Tracker solar power system is a proven and reliable solution for maximizing the highest energy delivery, while optimizing land use and reducing related costs", he added.

With these three new plants, the Californian firm can now boast an impressive 140 MW of tracker technology under contract or previously sold in Spain.

Naturener, who will be the owner of the plants, expects these to be in operation by the summer of 2008, before the expected change of the feed-in tariff in October of next year.
