U.S. Solar Capacity Can Now Power Over 50 Million American Homes

The United States now has enough operating solar capacity to power more than 50 million American homes, representing over one-third of all households nationwide. According to the latest U.S. Solar Market Insight report from the Solar Energy Industries Association and Wood Mackenzie, the solar industry added 11.4 GWdc of new electricity generating capacity in Q2 2026, a 45% year-over-year increase and a 43% increase from Q1.
