Conference highlights latest biomass heating innovations ahead of Renewable Heat Incentive

The European Bioenergy Expo and Conference (EBEC), the UK's largest dedicated bioenergy event, will be showcasing new biomass boiler technologies to coincide with the introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme by the Department for Energy & Climate Change.

Held on 5-6 October 2011 at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, EBEC will provide “a unique opportunity for those involved in the production of bioenergy to make direct contact with visitors who are interested in maximising the financial benefits of the RHI subsidy,” says its organisers.

Administered by Ofgem, the RHI is a fixed, index-linked income paid to organisations for each kWh of heat produced by renewable technologies such as biomass boilers over a 20-year period.

Eligible for payments under the RHI scheme, the robust Green Heat Module is among the innovative biomass boiler installations which will be on display at EBEC. Developed by Wood Energy, part of the RES Group, the Green Heat Module is a biomass boiler system designed to be easily retrofitted onto large commercial, industrial or public buildings, ranging in capacity from 58kW to 999kW.

With everything in-built, Wood Energy arrives on site, hooks up to an existing heating distribution system and sets the boiler in operation without the need to shut down existing heating systems. Once operational, customers can choose to maintain the boiler themselves or buy a service plan where fuel, meter readings and servicing are handled on the customers’ behalf.

Launched earlier this year, the Green Heat Module is faster and easier to retrofit than conventional units. According to the company, the pre-fabricated design owes much of its success to industry expertise.

"The choices made in defining the design have been based on the experience and deep understanding of Wood Energy's engineers with respect to the application of world-leading biomass boiler technology to UK building services design, especially in a retrofit scenario, and the wood fuel available in the UK," explains Neil Turner, Business Development Manager, RES On-site. "It is our third year at EBEC and every year it gets bigger and better. It is one those events you have to attend if you're serious about biomass heating," he added.

The largest pellet burner ever to be exhibited in the UK will also be on show at EBEC. Nuergy will be unveiling the Janfire System Jet 600kW wood pellet burner. Besides the impressive amount of power it can generate, the System Jet 600kW burner offers a high efficiency combustion process with very low emissions, accelerated flue gas flow for greater efficiency and fuel economy as well as a self-cleaning system to avoid less service downtime.

Nuergy is the sole UK distributor for Janfire, the longest established wood pellet burner manufacturer in the world based in Sweden. Nuergy assists in system design and specification as well as providing user training and service support after commissioning. Additionally, Nuergy offers a full ESCO ready heat solution or service contract to both consumers and fuel supply companies alike.

"Nuergy and Janfire have had a partnership for the past seven years, selling mainly to domestic and small commercial installations. Now the System Jet range is being offered to the UK market for retrofitting as well as for boiler house containers or skid unit module formats," said Kenneth Paterson, Owner of Nuergy.

EBEC 2011 is organised by Closer2 Media. Now in its sixth year, EBEC is the largest dedicated bioenergy expo in the UK. It provides a unique opportunity for those involved in the production of bioenergy to make direct contact with each other and visitors who are interested in harnessing energy derived from biological sources within their organisation.
