Global OTEC and Makai Ocean Engineering Sign MoU for Heat Exchanger Technology

In a positive development for the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) industry, Global OTEC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Makai Ocean Engineering (Makai), under which Makai will supply its proprietary Thin Foil Heat Exchanger (TFHX) technology for integration into Global OTEC’s most recent solution, the OTEC Power Module®.

Maryland Investing $17 Million to Improve Energy Efficiency in Public Schools

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore has announced significant new investments to enhance energy efficiency, electrification and renewable energy projects for public schools across the state. Through the Decarbonizing Public Schools Program, the agency will direct $17 million to 30 projects in 11 school districts to advance large-scale electrification and install solar energy systems.

A new study published by the Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA) finds that the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal to cut the Renewable Identification Number  by 50% for fuels made from foreign feedstocks, as part of its 2026 and 2027 Renewable Volume Obligations, could stall the growth of the biomass-based diesel industry and lead to higher costs for consumers.

Japan Certifies Proteus 1.1MW Tidal Turbine, Exporting Power to National Grid

Proteus Marine Renewables’ 1.1MW tidal turbine, the AR1100, has officially received certification from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the national authority responsible for regulating energy infrastructure and technology. The certification confirms the system meets Japan’s regulatory standards for power generation, marking another important step forward for tidal energy in the country. The turbine is now successfully exporting power to the national grid.
