Automated Charging of Electric Shuttles Takes Off at Graz Airport

The innovative shuttle system “GRZ Shuttle” is launching at Graz Airport on May 16 as part of the lighthouse project “move2zero”. The vehicle, a Mercedes e-Vito, will charge up using Matrix Charging®. Over a test period of six months, the emission-free shuttle will move passengers between the public transport stations (bus and rail) and the airport as needed and at no expense.

Rolls Royce Takes Steps Towards Meeting Net Zero Goals with the Use of Biofuels

Rolls-Royce has taken a significant step towards meeting its net zero goals, set out last year, with the approval by Power Systems of its Series 4000 and Series 1600 diesel engines for use with a range of EN15940-certified synthetic diesel fuels in power generation applications. Following successful testing, including in the field, both types of engines can use a range of sustainable fuels including Biomass to Liquid (BtL), Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and Power to Liquid (PtL) fuels such as e-diesel. They can all be used to replace conventional diesel fuel.

Growing renewable power generation: An interview with Christian Hürlimann of MET Group

MET Group, founded in 2007 in Hungary, has a major presence in central and eastern Europe, Spain, Italy, France and Germany, with more than 700 permanent staff and is  headquartered in Switzerland. It has revenues of over 18 billion euros and while best known for gas and electricity, its Renewables CEO, Christian Hürlimann, is leading its shift to renewables, with Italian and Spanish acquisitions as well as acquiring last year a 42 MW wind park in Bulgaria, a joint venture established with NIS to build a 102 MW wind farm in Serbia and operating solar power plants in Hungary.  The firm is currently on track to reach 500 MW renewables by 2023 in CEE. REM talked to Christian Hürlimann to find out more about what it does and its future ambitions.

Will Renewables Make Public Transportation More Affordable?

Will Renewables Make Public Transportation More Affordable?

Public transportation is often touted as the best alternative to owning a car, both cost and environmental impact. Utilizing public transit might be cheaper than owning a car, but it can still be costly, depending on where you live. In some cities, such as London or New York, commuters can expect to pay more than $100 a month to commute. According to Investopedia, the average commuter in London can pay more than $9,000 a year for train passes during peak hours.

Penn State Berks Gets Manufacturing PA Initiative Grant to Study Wind Turbines

The latest issue of the Wind Vision Report estimates that wind energy will supply 20% of the country’s electricity in 2030, and 35% in 2050. Increasingly larger wind farms pose a challenge due to the land area required. Penn State Berks recently received funding for a proposal titled “Evaluation of Clustering Effect in Harmony Turbine's Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Farms” to study this alternative method. The grant is for $69,833, and it will be matched in its entirety by Penn State.
