Tribal Utility-Scale Solar Initiatives Emerge Across Southwest US

Deals for utility-scale solar installations are accelerating on tribal lands in the Southwest US, according to a recently published report from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA). The report, Tribal Utility-Scale Solar Initiatives Advance Across Southwest U.S., cites the emergence of battery-storage technology, state energy policy changes and the rapidly falling prices of utility-scale solar as driving factors.

Acciona, headquartered in Spain, has signed an agreement with Omaha, Nebraska-based, Tenaska, to acquire a portfolio of greenfield PV solar and energy storage projects in the US. The development portfolio comprises approximately 3,000 MW of utility-scale solar and 1,000 MW of co-located solar and energy storage.
