Hexagon Purus’ hydrogen fuel storage systems will be used to support Solaris’ roll-out of hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses in Europe following recent public tender wins in Bologna, Italy.
Since 2021, Hexagon Purus has delivered hydrogen fuel storage systems for close to 200 Solaris hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses.
“Solaris is a leading player in driving the zero-emission transition in European public transportation” said Michael Kleschinski, Executive Vice President of Hexagon Purus. “We have a long-standing relationship with them and applaud their success in securing new contracts for hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses in Europe. We are committed to helping them decarbonise the European public transport sector”.
The transportation sector is accountable for about 20 percent of annual carbon emissions globally, and hydrogen has a significant role to play in reducing emissions from this sector and other hard-to-abate sectors. Making green hydrogen available for use in the transportation sector is critical to reduce carbon emissions.
As hydrogen, a key contributor to the energy transition, continues to build momentum globally, more than 30 countries have released hydrogen roadmaps, over $70 billion in government funding is committed to hydrogen investments, 500 large-scale hydrogen projects have been announced by the industry to date and green hydrogen is projected to supply up to 25 percent of the world's energy needs by 2050.
Delivery of the systems is scheduled to be between Q3 2024 and Q1 2025.
