The new wind farm, called ‘Primavera’, is the first plant of the ‘Cristal’ wind power complex to be completed. The ‘Cristal’ complex will ultimately have an installed capacity of 90MW and will generate more than 400 million kWh per year, of which the Primavera wind farm will contribute over 145 million kWh.
The project required an overall investment of around 165 million euros and brings EGP’s installed capacity in Brazil to more than 120MW, including 93MW from hydro. Brazil is rapidly becoming one of the leading markets for green energy in the world, already boasting more than 98,000MW of installed renewable capacity representing 85 percent of the country’s total installed capacity.
EGP was recently awarded a contract for 11MW of solar power in Brazil, adding to its existing 503MW of wind and hydro obtained during the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Brazilian public auctions. In addition to the Cristal complex, the company is also building the Curva and Serra Azul wind farms in the state of Bahia. The Fontes dos Ventos and Modelo wind farms will be the first to be built by EGP in the states of Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte. The company is also building a 1.2MW PV plant employing thin-film technology in order to provide power for the construction of three hydroelectric plants at Salto Apiacás, Cabeza de Boi and Fazenda in the state of Mato Grosso.
