Energy Giant Chevron could be looking to get into the wave energy game

While the wave energy industry is still in its infantile stages compared to other renewable energy industries, this hasn’t stop plenty of smaller companies from charging in and many governments from looking at the potential of the energy. Now Chevron Corp a energy giant in its own right has announced that it will spend up to $2 million USD to determine the feasibility of a wave energy project off of the California Coast.

The company has submitted an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for a preliminary permit. The site will be off of the coast of Mendocino County. Chevron has form Chevron California Renewables Inc.

The project will be managed by Raymond Cunningham, Kim Copelin a spokeswoman for Chevron had the following to say about the project;

"At this point we want to get more information and assess whether this is technologically and environmentally feasible,"

Chevron has sales and operating revenues of over $205 billion USD and a net income of $17.1 billion USD. Adding to this are over 62,000 employes making the company the second largest integrated energy company in the United States.
