Accra, Ghana has been chosen to host the world’s first conference to focus exclusively on off-grid technologies based on renewable energies. The event will take a special look at the applications in rural communities of developing countries, a market that is increasingly interesting for European companies. The event will take place in October 2012. Among the experts expected to attend are the Director General of IRENA, along with African Energy Ministers.
The event is jointly organised by the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and is an official contribution to the UN Sustainable Energy for All Initiative.
“The Conference will be a crucial opportunity to learn about the current status of rural electrification in Africa and developing countries, discuss the main bottlenecks to a successful scale up of off-grid renewable energies, highlight successful instruments and policies from around the world, and share knowledge about innovative financing solutions, technologies and the latest research,” explains the Alliance for Rural Electrification.
An exhibition will also take place in parallel with the conference, to give the private sector the opportunity to further present its products and projects.
More details on the programme of the Conference and how to register and exhibit will be released shortly at the ARE website.
