Singapore-registered company Sun Ice Energy has announced the development of a a zero-carbon ice skating rink that efficiently stores solar power using an advanced thermal storage solution.

The technology for the project is based on Phase Change Material (PCM), which not only cools the environment but also offers significant cost savings and environmental benefits, revolutionising the ice-skating industry.

Jacque Mouchet, the visionary founder of Sun Ice Energy, has spearheaded the development of this cutting-edge solution. By harnessing the power of solar energy and PCM, the zero-carbon ice skating rink has the capacity to cool an environment for a minimum of one day, utilising just 3 hours of solar power per day. The excess solar energy can be stored in batteries for lighting or sold back to the grid, further maximising efficiency and sustainability.

The innovative thermal storage solution employed by Sun Ice Energy eliminates the need for traditional cooling methods, resulting in substantial cost savings for ice skating rink operators. It is estimated that on cooling alone, operators can save up to US$350,000 per year. Moreover, the technology boasts a remarkable 50-year lifespan, requiring minimal maintenance and providing long-term cost benefits. With its non-flammable properties, the system ensures a safe and worry-free operational environment.
