This marks the third project in Chile for NEC Energy Solutions since 2009, which has installed 34 MW of grid energy storage solutions in that country. This new system will be located in Arica, in Northern Chile and will be connected to an existing substation. The energy storage system will provide spinning reserve and has the capacity to provide other ancillary services to help with the integration of PV and wind projects.
“We are very pleased that ENGIE selected NEC as their partner for its first energy storage project in Latin America and hope that this is a first step for a long-lasting cooperation for the development of energy storage projects,” said Herwig Ragossnig, Head of Business Development for Smart Energy in Latin America.
“It’s rewarding to work with a new customer like ENGIE Energía Chile and deliver a solution that provides immediate impact,” said Steve Fludder, CEO of NEC Energy Solutions.
NEC provided ENGIE Energía Chile with a GSS® grid storage solution, which includes containerized lithium ion batteries, a power conversion system, and NEC Energy Solutions’ proprietary AEROS® controls system. NEC will also be providing service and maintenance.
