TIM and Faro Energy Expand Solar  Projects in Brazil

Telecommunications firm TIM has expanded its project clean energy generation and, in partnership with Faro Energy, will feature over 15 solar power plants to supply its network infrastructure to the end of the first half of 2021. The plants are located in Brazil, in the Federal District and five more states and have an installed capacity of 25 MWp, feeding 970 antennas and towers of the operator in the Northeast and Midwest.

Faro is responsible for the investment, construction, operation and maintenance of solar plants. Ten of them are already operating and serving TIM consumer units in Paraíba, Pernambuco, Ceará and Tocantins. Another five, located in the Federal District and Rio Grande do Norte are in an advanced stage of construction, with delivery scheduled for June. The expectation is to produce more than 45 GWh per year when all plants are operating, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 20,000 homes.

For TIM, clean and renewable energy generation projects are essential and are part of its commitment to the best environmental, social and governance practices (acronym ESG, in English), as highlighted by Bruno Gentil , the company's Chief Business Support Officer.

“We currently have 34 renewable energy plants in operation and we want to reach 60 by the end of 2022, with enough monthly generation to supply a city of 150 thousand inhabitants. To achieve this goal, we need partners with expertise and growth potential, such as Faro Energy, which operates in line with our ESG pillars," he said.

The generation of energy from the 15 new solar plants will avoid the emission of approximately 15,000  tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the planting of 90 thousand trees or a reduction in the circulation of 8,000 vehicles on the roads. So far, the plants in operation have avoided the emission of 3.7 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere or the equivalent of planting 23,000 trees. The plants are equipped with a solar tracker to fix the modules, which makes the equipment follow the position of the sun, providing greater efficiency in the generation of energy.

“We are investing more than R $ 100 million in our partnership with TIM. We know the importance of sustainable energy generation projects for the country and we want to lead, together with the operator, a market that is constantly looking for new solutions and opportunities," comments Pedro Mateus , CEO of Faro Energy.

In addition to reducing environmental impacts, the plants built by Faro Energy for TIM have a positive influence on the local economy, as they use services and labor in the cities where they are implemented, encouraging the generation of jobs and the qualification of professionals. Employees and companies are hired not only for the construction of the plants, but also for their operation and maintenance, for the entire useful life of the plant, of more than 25 years.
