FRV submits 1.8 GW of BESS and solar projects to UK’s Gate 2 Window of NESO’s Connection Reform Process

Developer of sustainable energy solutions and subsidiary of Jameel Energy, Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), has announced it has, through its majority owned joint venture platform, FRV Powertek, submitted a portfolio of 1.8 GW of fully permitted renewable and battery energy storage projects to the UK’s Gate 2 window of the NESO (National Energy System Operator) Connection Reform process.

The projects are seeking advanced connection dates pre-2030, with proposed connection dates through 2026 to 2029.

The portfolio includes both solar plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS), consolidating FRV’s role as one of the key players in the UK energy sector. Amongst the most prominent projects are the Bicker Fen (400 MW), Stocking Pelham (400 MW), Stow Manor (400 MW), Ansty (200 MW) and Maes Melin (200 MW) BESS projects.   In addition, the Malice Farm project will combine 50 MW solar generation with storage, representing a further step in the integration of hybrid and flexible solutions. The portfolio also includes the 50 MW/200 MWh Hollybush and 50 MW/200 MWh Dunbar projects, each with protected connection dates in 2026 and 2027 respectively.

This pipeline reinforces FRV’s strategic position in the United Kingdom, the country where it inaugurated its first global storage plant, Holes Bay, in 2020. Since then, the company has brought into operation three facilities: Holes Bay, Contego and Clay Tye, reaching a total of 140 MW/280 MWh in operation.

“The UK was where we began our energy storage journey, and submission of our pipeline marks a significant milestone for us and is a vital step forward for the growth of our portfolio in the UK” said Tom Guilfoyle, Managing Director of FRV UK. “The Connection Reform presents an unprecedent opportunity to bring fully permitted, low carbon infrastructure online faster – vital to our continuing commitment to support a more resilient, decarbonised and efficient electricity grid energy mix, to accelerate a path to a secure, net-zero future.”
