New large orders for Vestas

America, Italy and Spain are the places were Vestas' latest orders have been posted. Three projects will total well above 100 MW, consolidating the Danish firm's leadership also in 2007.

The first of the projects, to be developed in Andalusia (Southern Spain) includes 14 units of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine for the Cortijo de Guerra development, which includes supply, installation, commissioning and service contract for two years. The location chosen is Puerto Real, near Cádiz

"We are very pleased to sign the contract for the project Cortijo de Guerra with the Danish independent renewable power producer EuroTrust. The fact that they have chosen Vestas as supplier for their power plant in Spain reflects their great trust in our working relationship and hopefully lays grounds for a future cooperation in Spain," said Javier Rodriguez, General Manager of Vestas Eólica in Spain, in a press release.

Not far from Spain, Vestas has announced an agreement for the sale of 27 units of the V90-2.0 MW for the project Grottole, which is located in the region of Basilicata in Southern Italy. The turnkey contract includes delivery, installation, commissioning, and a service contract for 5 years.

"We are very satisfied with this new order in the Basilicata region, which confirms the positive trend of wind power development in that area. By the end of June 2006, Vestas turbines covered 89 per cent of the installed capacity in Basilicata, with 97 MW of the totally installed 109 MW," said Mr Rainer Karan, General Manager of Vestas Italia, also in a Vestas press release.

The last of the projects includes eight V90-3.0 MW turbines and has been ordered from America by by Alite Wind, LLC. Alite Wind, LLC is part of the Allco Wind Energy group. This project is the first phase of the Alta Wind Energy Center that is under development in the Tehachapi (California) wind resource area by Alta Innovative Power Company, LLC, a joint venture between Allco Wind Energy and Oak Creek Energy Systems, Inc. for the development, construction and operation of the wind farms. Vestas' service will comprise, in this case, a period of 5 years.

With this new 120 MW Vestas confirms its first place in the wind turbine manufacturing league. A cumbersome feed-in tariff legislation environment in some of the countries where the firm operates seems not to be a problem for the Danish firm to achieve robust sales, which clearly indicates how little by little wind power is becoming truly competitive with traditional sources of energy.
