The company’s AE75TX solar inverters have been selected for a 147kW solar energy system at the Mary Switzer building in Washington D.C.
Advanced Energy inverters chosen for Federal solar project

First Power and Light has selected AE75TX inverters supplied by Advanced Energy Industries for the Federal Mary Switzer Building in Washington D.C. – the oldest Federal building in Washington to install a solar energy system.

The system is constructed entirely from US-made components and was installed by First Power and Light which supplies systems for the commercial, government and large residential sectors and was recently acquired by Mainstream Entertainment. The Mary Switzer building was selected for complete modernization as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (2009) in order to help produce clean, affordable solar energy in line with the Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings energy efficiency standards.

“At the direction of President Obama, federal agencies are looking for high-value, American-designed technologies that help reduce operating costs and minimize the government's environmental impact, and Advanced Energy, Solar Energy's AE 75TX inverters fit the bill,” said Thomas Moore, Vice President of the Construction Division at First Power and Light. “The robust design, integrated features and reliability of the AE 75TX solar inverter provides an unbeatable levelized cost of electricity (LCOE). We look forward to working with AE Solar Energy on this project as well as future projects, to help federal agencies and other organizations take advantage of solar power.”

The entire Federal government is now focused on embracing domestic sources of energy and this has become even more of a priority now that the Department of Defense has identified climate change as a threat to national security. Clean sources of renewable energy are expected to be a major part of the government’s effort to achieve this.

The American-made components built into the system include system racking components made by Daetwyler of North Carolina and solar modules supplied by Motech in Newark, Delaware.
