The Ministry of Industry announces that the feed-in tariffs will be modified

The Ministry of Industrz, Tourism and Trade, Mr José Montilla, stated yesterday that the renewable energy retribution Decree will be revised in July "in order to adapt it to the new changing circumstancies of the industry”. Mr Montilla announced it in the Senate, when replying to Mr Javier Albistur, a PNV Senator, about the government view on private initiatives coming from different regions on renewable energy promotion.

The Minister admitted that the huge demand from regions, which doubles the Government's forecast, is a problem: "facing this high demand, the Government had two choices: either to do nothing and overview the problem, or starting a dialogue with the regions, which is the one that we have chosen, in order to ensure that the projects that are ongoing are completed”, he said.

As concerns the Renewable Energy Plan (PER), he said that "we have to be happy, since the goals set for 2010 are going to be metr”.

In his reply, Mr Albistur mentioned the importance of renewable energz and called for a solution to pending matters such as the uncertainty and the poor inter-Ministry co-ordination, so as support for private investors.

Mr Montilla also spoke about the Government support towards renewables, “as shown bz the Plan de Energías Renovables 2005-2010 which, besides of including specific measures, also includes financial proposals in the form of feed-in tariffs and fiscal deductions”, he pointed out.
