Located in the Jazan Province, in the southwest part of the country, the 600 MW Samtah Solar PV Power Project will be developed, financed, built, owned, and operated by a consortium formed by SEC and EDF power solutions. Once operational, in the last quarter of 2027, it will supply renewable electricity to more than 100,000 homes each year and is expected to avoid over 1.1 million tons of carbon-dioxide emissions annually.
With more than 30 years of presence in the region and more than 20 years in Saudi Arabia, EDF power solutions covers the entire energy value chain from low-carbon generation, through transmission to energy efficiency and demand side management. Its portfolio in Saudi Arabia has reached 700 MW of assets in operation with a pipeline of projects under construction of 6 GW. This includes important projects such as Al Henakiyah, a 1GW solar plant that should be commissioned in the beginning of 2026, and the Dumat Al Jandal wind power plant, a 400 MW project commissioned in 2022, that is the largest wind power plant in the Middle East.
“The award of the Samtah Solar Project marks another significant milestone in EDF power solutions' longstanding partnership with the Ministry of Energy and the Saudi Power Procurement Company” said Omar Al-Daweesh, CEO of EDF power solutions KSA. “Leveraging extensive technical expertise and deep local knowledge, this project underscores our commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia's renewable energy ambitions while maintaining high environmental and social standards.”
