José Cabrera was co-created with Graphic Packaging, a global leader in sustainable consumer packaging, via a long-term virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) which forms part of a wider agreement that will see over 100 MWdc of new solar power capacity constructed in Spain this year.
The project supported over 200 jobs during the construction phase and will generate a total of 83 GWh/year of clean energy – enough electricity to meet the demands equivalent to 24,000 local homes. The project will also avoid the emissions of 11,500 tons of CO₂ per year.
“We are proud to have delivered this significant project ahead of time and under budget, to guarantee the delivery of clean energy for Graphic Packaging to help them meet their decarbonisation targets” said Luis Alvargonzalez, Zelestra’s country manager in Spain. “In the development phase we worked closely with a wide range of local stakeholders and community groups to plan our activities carefully and our EPC team then drew on their wide experience to bring this project to life in record time.”
Zelestra has a project portfolio of more than 6 GW in Spain, which includes over 1 GW of projects contracted, in construction, or operational. The company was recently named among the top 10 sellers of clean energy to corporate customers globally by BloombergNEF (BNEF), and number 2 in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
