The campaign will build on the efforts and success of the European Wind Day 2007 and 2008, in which over 20 countries participated in
Global Wind Day is an awareness campaign for the promotion of wind energy worldwide. The message is global: wind power works – it tackles climate change, it improves energy dependence on fossil fuels, and it is an intelligent investment. Global Wind Day events will take place across 25 countries worldwide and will both reach out for and be powered by the people.
Thousands of public events will be held simultaneously, all of which can be seen on a new, interactive Google map (http://www.globalwindday.org/index.php?id=6), which shows all the activities on offer at any location at the click of a mouse. Wind farm guided tours, conferences, exhibitions, workshops, information days, openings of new wind farms, regattas, marathons and theatrical shows are among the activities on offer.
2009 will be a crucial year for the fight against climate change, with decision makers from all over the world meeting in
As the counters show on the GWEC website, since 1 December 2008 wind power has generated over 140,000 GW of energy and avoided 84,000,000 tones of CO2 emissions worldwide – something that should definitely be celebrated during Global Wind Day.
