Nordex to build its own production facilities in the United States

The company plans to invest up to 100 million USD in wind turbine and rotor blade production facilities.

It is hoped that the first facilities can be producing in 2009. These will be the first in the United States market which produce 2.5 MW wind turbines. The annual production capacity would be 750 MW or 300 turbines of this make by 2012. From 2010 onwards Nordex wants to invest 66 percent of the total sum in blade production. 600 jobs will be created as a result of the new facilities. Currently Nordex is supplying 220 MW worth of turbines , which are being built mainly in Germany.

Thomas Richterich, CEO of Nordex AG explained the decision to build the US facilities as follows; “Four years ago, Europe constituted over 70 percent of the market. Looking forward, we expect Europe, Asia and the United States to each account for one third of demand. Over the next few years, we want to generate around 20 percent of our sales in North America,”

We are looking for a centrally located facility, with everything pointing to a location in the Mid West,” says Ralf Sigrist, President of Nordex USA Inc
