The Polish company of the global consulting, engineering and design group Ramboll originating from Denmark, together with the Polish design office Projmors, will prepare a construction project for both stages of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm, i.e. Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, implemented jointly by Ørsted and PGE Group. The contractor will also be responsible for preparing documentation and obtaining a building permit for the maritime part of the OWF Baltica project.

"We are happy to have contracted experienced consortium for one of the most important scopes in Baltica 2+3 project. Offshore wind is a competitive market where players can gain experience and build their competences through e.g. joining forces by global and local players creating consortia. We could observe these good practices in other markets and now we can see it also in Poland," said Søren Westergaard Jensen, Project Director in Baltica Offshore Wind Farm on behalf of Ørsted.

"Strengthening the competences of the Polish industry as part of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project is also a practical implementation of the commitment we have made as a foreign investor by signing the Sector Deal for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland," added the Project Director.

"We have completed a key proceeding that precedes the final investment decision regarding the construction of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a capacity of approx. 2.5 GW - the largest in the Baltic Sea. We start cooperation with a contractor who has extensive experience in the field of offshore wind energy and the process of obtaining permits. We are pleased that the consortium includes a design office from Gdańsk, which is proof that Polish companies are actively using the opportunities to join the development of offshore wind energy in Poland," said Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

The contractor,  a consortium of Ramboll Polska and Projmors Maritime Construction Design Office, was selected as part of a competitive dialogue tender procedure. Its task is to prepare design documentation for foundations, turbines, internal cables and power stations at sea, as well as to obtain a building permit, and then prepare the technical design of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. The deadline for the task is the third quarter of 2023.

According to the schedule, the launch of the first stage of the project, i.e. Baltica 3 with a capacity of up to 1045.5 MW, is planned for 2026. The next stage, i.e. Baltica 2 with a capacity of up to 1498 MW, is to be commissioned in 2027.

Both stages of the IMF Baltica have location decisions (PSzW), environmental decisions for the maritime part, transmission network connection agreements with the operator, and have also received the right to a contract for difference (CfD).

In 2022, the project partners expect to receive further administrative decisions for the onshore transmission part, and will also start work on obtaining a building permit. These are the last permits required before the final investment decision is made.
