The Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley is Now Under Construction

Moeve has announced the first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley — Onuba — is already underway and will have an electrolysis capacity of 300 MW, expandable by an additional 105 MW. With a joint investment of over €1 billion, Onuba will generate an impact equivalent to more than 8,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs across the entire value chain during the various stages of the project.

This first phase of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley has been recognized by the European Union as a Project of Common Interest (PCI) and has secured funding of €304 million granted by the Government of Spain under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union through NextGenerationEU, as part of the support program for Renewable Hydrogen Valleys for the development of 405 MW of the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley.

This institutional support is recognition of the project's strategic contribution to European energy security and industrial competitiveness, as well as the decarbonization of sectors that are difficult to electrify.

Onuba estimates that Moeve will be able to produce approximately 45,000 tons of renewable hydrogen per year, preventing the emission of some 250,000 tons of CO₂ annually.

Technology for a new industry

Onuba is conceived as the first digital native plant. From the design phase, it has incorporated a digital twin and an integrated data and IoT platform that will enable us to optimize operations, foresee incidents, and maximize energy and operational efficiency.

Digitalization will be a key factor in developing a new generation of industrial assets that are safer, more efficient, and ready to scale up renewable hydrogen production in Europe.

Applications of renewable hydrogen

Production from the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley will make it possible to decarbonize activities that are key to the European economy:

SAF: SAF is a second-generation biofuel that is produced from organic waste and reduces CO₂ emissions. Thanks to it, we will transform the future of aviation and drive the decarbonization of air transport.
