Pavegen selected for Cyberport 5 smart city expansion in Hong Kong

UK-based clean technology company Pavegen has been selected to deliver a flagship installation at Cyberport 5, part of the HK$3.7 billion (US$472 million) expansion of Cyberport, Hong Kong’s government-owned Innovation & Technology (I&T) hub.

Installation is scheduled for September 2025, ahead of the site’s full completion later in the year.

The project is being delivered in partnership with Gammon Construction, one of Asia’s most respected contractors, and Siemens, utilising their Insights Hub (previously known as Mindsphere), to enable live, cloud-based data analytics.

Cyberport is a digital technology campus and I&T ecosystem developed by the Hong Kong SAR Government, home to over 1,800 tech companies, and a key driver of Hong Kong’s transformation into a global smart city.

“Our installation at Cyberport 5 proves how clean energy, digital insight, and community engagement can come together to create spaces that are as interactive as they are intelligent” said Laurence Kemball-Cook, CEO and Founder of Pavegen. “Being part of this expansion alongside Cyberport, Gammon, and Siemens is an incredible opportunity that places us at the heart of one of Asia’s most forward-thinking smart city projects and underscores Pavegen’s readiness to integrate at scale across the region.”

Pavegen will deliver:

Two 10.85 square metre kinetic energy arrays outside the new 10-storey smart building at Cyberport

Footstep-powered clean energy, stored in batteries and used to help power outdoor lighting in the upgraded waterfront park

Real-time data insights, available via Siemens Insights Hub, allowing Cyberport and Pavegen to monitor energy output, and optimise system performance

The installation enables every pedestrian to become an energy contributor, creating a direct, emotional connection between human movement and smart infrastructure.

This installation represents a global proof point for Pavegen’s growth strategy in Asia and reinforces its unique positioning at the intersection of:

Smart city infrastructure

Interactive sustainability and ESG impact

Decentralised clean energy

Data-rich engagement platforms

Cross-sector innovation with trusted global partners

Pavegen aims to provide a scalable, tangible, and participatory solution at a time when governments and developers are seeking to make cities smarter, greener and more people-centric.
