The plants will be built by the Italian company Petrolvilla and will be along the Iskar river. The project’s nine hydro power plants will have a total installed capacity of 26 megawatts. It is hoped that the project will be completed by 2011 and that this will serve as a major step forward in Bulgaria’s renewable energy efforts. In total the project will cost 80 million Euros. The 34 million Euros not covered by the EBRD loan will be provided by the European Bank.
