Oceanlinx joins host of other parties off the north Cornwell coast

Australian based Oceanlinx is the fourth company to become part of the $52 million USD wave energy project off of the coast of England. The project will involve making a wave energy farm, a first in the world it is claimed.

The project is set to power around about 7,500 homes in total. Oceanlinx hopes to provide enough power for 1,500 of those homes. The other three companies are Ocean Power Technologies, Fred Olsen Limited and Westwave. Each of the companies will be given a lease for 2 square kilometers of the sea to develop their scheme.

The project which will run under the name Wavehub will receive about $43 million USD from the South West Development Agency, but still needs to be approved by the UK and EU governments.

Currently Oceanlinx has projects in Australia, Rhode Island, South Afria, Mexico, King Island, and Hawaii. The project range from 5 to 15 MW and use a turbine design. The wave crashing into the device will funnel air through the turbine. Each of the devices generates approximately 1.5 MW.
