State of Vermont becomes home to a grassroots movement to further the cause of micro scale hydro power

Vermont has a great deal of old dams which served now abandoned mill sites. Recently there have been petitions being collected by several community organizations to get the necessary 5% of signatures of registered voters to get hydro power initiatives on the ballot in local towns. Voters in no less then 9 towns wanted the state government to move ahead with development of small scale hydro power plant projects.

Vermont is known as a state which has remained true to its roots and remains environmentally very proactive.  As there are many sites which would be ideal to meet the needs of micro run of the river hydro electric projects, projects will most likely serve each towns needs. Using old mill sites and preexisting dams will both protect ecosystems and cut down on costs, a combination likely to win the support of local communities.
