Renewables create double the number of jobs in Germany than in 2004

The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology's website, Renewables Made in Germany, recently announced the findings of a new study that reveals 340,000 people work in the field of renewable energies in Germany.

This is the result of a scientific evaluation presented by the German Environment Ministry in October 2010. For this evaluation, a team of renowned research institutes under the leadership of the Institute of Economic Structures Research surveyed around 1,200 companies. The survey shows that the number of jobs in the field of renewables has more than doubled since 2004.

The strongest growth can be seen in the geothermal sector, with a 706 percent growth in jobs. With its 14,500 employees, however, this industry is still among the smallest ones. A lot more people earn their salaries in the fields of bioenergy (128,000), wind power (102,100) and photovoltaics (64,700).

Another finding of the survey was that an increasing share of the overall turnover of German renewable energy companies is based on their exports.
