The visit was part of Morello’s ongoing engagement with the solar sector and follows his attendance at the launch of Solar Energy UK’s Solar Habitat 2025 report earlier this year. At Rampisham, he met with senior BSR team members, CEO, Tim Humpage, and Deputy CEO Fran Button, to see first-hand how solar infrastructure is being delivered on the ground.
During the visit, the group discussed key opportunities and challenges for the solar sector, including the urgent need to address grid connection delays and capacity constraints, which are slowing project delivery and limiting local economic benefits. The conversation also highlighted how well-managed solar sites can deliver wider environmental value.
At Rampisham, biodiversity enhancements include native hedgerow planting, rotational sheep grazing, and the installation of a bat detectors as part of an ongoing ecological survey, helping inform long-term habitat management and contributing to a richer understanding of local wildlife.
This is one of several projects owned and operated by BSR across the South West. The 10MW site integrates rotational sheep grazing and wildflower-rich areas, supporting a dual-purpose land strategy that delivers ecological and economic value.
Morello said, “It’s encouraging to see clean energy being delivered alongside strong land management practices. The insights from Rampisham will help inform how I approach energy policy and solar’s role in the wider transition.”
Morello, a backbench MP who works closely with Solar Energy UK, has been building crossparty support for clearer and more consistent renewable energy policy in Parliament.
Tim Humpage, Chief Executive Officer, said, “It was a pleasure to host Edward at Rampisham Visits like this help ground national policy in practical reality. Solar is delivering now for energy security, for rural economies, and for the environment. But there are still barriers to scale that need to be addressed.”
BSR owns and operates a growing portfolio of solar and battery storage assets, with over a decade of experience delivering long-term, sustainable infrastructure across the UK.
