The event was also attended by the Regional Governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez, the Provincial Mayor of Arequipa, Víctor Rivera, Vice Ministers of State, among other authorities and local officials.
Strategically located in La Joya, Arequipa, to maximise the use of the solar resource, the San Martín plant will generate more than 830 GWh of clean energy per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 440,000 Peruvian homes. Its entry into full operations will also prevent the emission of 166,549 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
“We congratulate the promoters of this megaproject” said Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Luis Montero Cornejo. “Thanks to the coordinated work with investors, this megaproject is today a reality to advance a common goal: to achieve greater security, sustainability and diversification of the national electricity matrix, fully aligning with Peru's energy transition policy.”
Delivered in less than 18 months and led by Zelestra's in-house EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) division, San Martín is comprised of 450,000 modules and generated more than 900 jobs at the peak of its construction. The clean energy produced is procured by Zelestra's client, Kallpa Generación, through a long-term PPA contract that is helping the company continue to diversify its energy sources in Peru.
