Under this agreement, ENGIE will benefit for a period of ten years from the flexibility that batteries provide in the day-ahead electricity market, while IGNIS will secure the revenue generated by these assets. IGNIS will also be responsible for operating the facilities and optimizing its participation in balancing the electricity system.

The batteries included in the agreement, which are scheduled to be commissioned in 2028, will allow energy to be stored during periods of peak renewable generation and will supply it when demand requires it, reducing exposure to the volatility of the electricity market and contributing to the flexibility and stability of the electricity system.

With this agreement, ENGIE —an international benchmark for the energy transition— is advancing its strategy of  integrating flexibility ,  an increasingly crucial element for the resilience of the electricity system  into its business model and the offering it makes available to its customers.

For its part, IGNIS, which last year became  the first independent operator in Spain to manage a stand-alone battery  in the market, is reinforcing its commitment to energy storage.

In addition to securing recurring revenue alongside a top-tier counterparty like ENGIE, this agreement allows us to continue maximizing the value of these assets thanks to our expertise in balancing the electricity system. In this way, IGNIS continues to contribute to the flexibility of the Spanish electricity system and the electrification of our economy," says Santiago Bordiú, Head of IGNIS Energy.

For his part, Jean Nicolas Lejeune, Managing Director of ENGIE's Supply & Energy Management division for Iberia, believes that, This agreement consolidates ENGIE’s role as  a leading player in accessing the energy storage market in Spain : we are putting our energy management platform at the service of batteries to bring their flexibility to the market. And by combining that storage capacity with the renewable energy in our portfolio,  we are reinforcing our ambition to offer customers a competitive, decarbonized supply available 24/7 .”
