The installation of small wind systems in the UK is particularly interesting for homeowners and businesses. With a strong home base, UK small wind manufacturers are becoming a major force in fast-expanding international markets. Certification of turbines and related equipment is a precondition for export.
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme allows manufacturers of small wind turbines to seek certification enabling buyers of their systems to qualify for UK financial incentives. The MCS is the only certification scheme to cover all microgeneration products and services in the UK. With the support from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and industry and non-governmental groups, it is a prime method for making a substantial contribution to cutting the UK's dependency on fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions.
Certification agency, GL Renewables Certification, is one organisation accredited to provide a broad range of certification services for small scale wind turbine manufacturers to IEC 61400-2:2006 and BWEA Standard 2008-02, and has just been accredited as an MCS Certification Agency. GL Renewables Certification is recognized to carry out product certification for micro and small wind turbines. This involves the assessment and testing of the products and the manufacturing evaluation.
